This is a long distance bike for our friend Susana. "Allure Libre" it´s a reference to how Susana likes to ride, at her own rhythm, her own path. She's 1,5 meters and came to us to get a bike where she could ride for as long as she wanted. We are really happy we had the opportunity to be involved in this process as this is the kind of project where "custom" or "built to measure" takes its whole meaning.
Normally, in the design stage, we ask for some measures of the current bike in use, so we can have an idea of the preferred position or way of riding in a determinate type of bike. In this case, Susana was riding a bike that was far for being the appropriate for the type of use, so we decided that the best way to start was putting her on a fitting machine.
The fork and frame is all in Columbus SL, brass fillet brazed, designed it around 650 c Wheels. Inner top tube brake cable guide, front light cable fork blade routing and bosses for front and rear racks.
Aside for a better performance Susana was looking for a bike that allowed her to admire the views of the different places she wanted to go. With this in mind we tried to keep a short reach with a short top tube and stem, straight seat post, small drop handlebar and brake/gear levers.
Shimano 105, front dynamo hub SON, Mavic open-pro rims, Serfas Urbana tyres 650-28c (yep, one of the few models made with this size and width), Specialized Riva saddle, Shimano R700 shifters/brake levers (the shortest STI levers we could find to fit a small hand). We opted for a 48-34 / 32-12 gear ratio to facilitate the riding in all the different places and countries Susana likes to travel with a light to moderate load.
